Protesters and Influencers…Full circle with the Obamas…The Zero-Sum game…

Last night there was a protest in front of the Israeli consulate on Madison Street in downtown Chicago. The demonstration was called “Make it Great like ’68 — Shut Down DNC For Gaza”. I watched from a safe distance as my normal work commute route was blocked by about 150 protestors wearing baklavas, waving Palestinian flags, chanting against the war and harassing the jittery news reporters who broadcasted live. The Chicago police were having none of it. After about an hour, after somebody burned an American flag in the middle of Madison Street, they flanked the protestors. The protestors locked arms and went toward the loop and Lake Michigan, but they ran into a wall of police in riot gear. The police ordered, loudly into megaphones, to “disperse” and when the protestors refused, the Police moved in and arrested 72 of them. In the annals of riots, it was tame and not all the like the doomsday apocalypse predicted by the far-right trolls on X.

Inside the United Center, day two unfolded. Over 200 DNC- credentialed influencers filmed the convention. I spoke to a few of them and they explained the DNC people gave them a very specific list of content they needed to produce. The message was clear–get content that creates joy. I started to…
