In the last few days it looks like Joe Biden is living his best life. Multiple news photos show him lounging on the beach. He’s relaxed, he’s rested, he can’t be bothered…until today. Today was the day Dark Brandon came out to play. Joe Biden is a man constrained by his morals. Donald Trump is a man trained to exploit a man constrained by his morals. But today the tide shifted. Biden realizes that he doesn’t have to cater to anybody anymore. He’s more outspoken, a little grumpy. People love it. Today was the first joint campaign rally Biden and Harris held together. In his speech, Biden referred to Trump as “that guy we’re running against” and “Donald Dump”.
Cut to: #DonaldDump sprouted legs and is trending on X. It’s all well and good, but this algorithmic, sensationalistic trading of insults to get to the top of America’s social media attention span seems to have a half-life of a day. Do these battles even affect the election?
The Harris campaign flooded my inbox today with urgent messages. They all framed her and Walz as the thin blue line between a fascist, dystopian future and freedom.
“Our democracy is at stake” is the message they’re hammering over and over again.
