After endorsing Trump in the election, Elon Musk planned to take all the election bandwidth from Harris and Walz in a live stunt. Both campaigns are in an attention war, and Harris and Walz are winning.
Musk succeeded–just maybe not in the way he foresaw. For 40 minutes he scrambled to fix glitches as elevator music played in the space. Later he claimed X was attacked by hackers using a denial of service tactic. I tried to join about 12 times and gave up. When they finally let me join, all I heard was Trump’s rehash of his already worn bullet points–immigration, climate change, crooked Joe and crazy Kamala. Trump developed a lisp, which sent speculation running wild about why the next day. Did he have a stroke? Was this AI? Is he well?
Musk claimed today, with no source or attribution, there were 1 billion “views”. The MAGA heads are declaring the election over. There is no distinction in MAGA land about the different between a view and a vote. None of them are apparently fluent in data or research techniques. Few of them realize the difference between qualitative data and quantitative data. People who watch aren’t naturally voting for Trump. Not all people who went to see the flying Wallendas wanted…
