Today the man who gunned down seven people and terrorized many families at the Highland Park 4th of July parade— including mine, who ran — changed his plea to guilty in court today. The past week the defense and the prosecution picked the jury. Today was supposed to be the first day of the trial.

What a crazy 2/12 years it’s been… My wife has gone from housewife to a nationally known gun violence prevention activist whose been invited to the white house (obviously not Trump’s White House). My son has had a ton of therapy — So have countless children in this town.

I need to write more about today, but my brain is scrambled eggs.

So…here’s what I first wrote about it that week. I hope nobody has to go through what we, and the people of HP, went through.
