The Gun Violence Tipping Point Nobody Wants

At a point in the next decade everyone will either be in a mass shooting, or know someone who has been in one.

Here’s a funny story. A gun violence prevention activist I know went to D.C. for a protest against inadequate gun laws in this country. This protest drained her and she decided to take a vacation at her sister-in-law’s house in Nashville. While in Nashville, she called a friend. Her friend was a fellow gun violence prevention activist who lost son in a mass shooting. They decided on lunch in southwest Nashville.

As she drove to lunch, her friend called. There was a shooting at a school near them called the Covenant School. Her friend’s youngest son was in lockdown at a high school blocks away.

Let me repeat this story another way. My friend, who was in a mass shooting, went to DC to protest mass shootings, went on vacation, tried to meet her friend whose son was killed in a mass shooting and on the way found herself less than a half-mile from a mass shooting.
